PROSPERA’S XIII BIENNIAL: RISING TEMPERATURES, Dialogues on Feminist Funding for Climate Justice
The global environmental challenges we face today underscore the urgent need for collective action. The overexploitation of natural resources, including oil, gas, and mining, an energy transition that is focused on the needs of the North, food insecurity, water scarcity, displacement of communities affected by climate-induced disasters, and the increase of armed conflicts- all pose significant threats to millions of people and the planet—particularly to the Indigenous peoples who have historically safeguarded the commons. As transnational companies and greed drive an increase the number of extractive projects to satisfy the financial interests of a few, the number of environmental defenders who have disappeared or been killed continues to increase at an alarming rate.
Feminist funds members of Prospera have continuously supported climate justice work. However, we know now is the time to double down our collective efforts to support climate action. This is essential to addressing the root causes of climate crises and its deeply intertwined intersecting inequalities.
The latter part of 2024 will be marked by two major events for our network. From September 27th to 29th, the Global Alliance for Green and Gender Action, Global Greengrants Fund, and Prospera will host the Climate and Gender Justice Summit in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. This crucial platform will bring together activists, funders and experts to discuss the urgent need for developing a feminist climate agenda that is rooted in the needs and priorities of communities in the Global South. The Summit aims to build momentum, generate political will, and align strategies for collective action.
Following the Summit, Prospera’s XIII Biennial, “Rising Temperatures: Feminist Funding Dialogues for Climate Justice”, will also be held in Tanzania on Oct 1-3. This unique event will explore how to collectively resource feminist climate action.
As climate emergencies increasingly threaten life on the planet, Prospera’s Biennial and the Summit are part of our persistent commitment to continue working to fund feminist climate solutions today to fulfill our collective dream of reaching a feminist world tomorrow.
We invite funders, governments, allies, and activists to join us in strategizing to adequately fund, support, and partner with other feminists and Indigenous women to achieve a gender and environmentally just world.
