Leadership Announcement Prospera INWFF Welcomes Incoming Executive Director, Laila Alodaat

The Board of Directors of Prospera International Network of Women’s and Feminist Funds is pleased to announce Laila Alodaat as the newly appointed incoming Executive Director of Prospera.

Having completed seven years in leadership of the Network, the current ED of Prospera, Alexandra Garita, encouraged the Board to initiate a thoughtful transition. With the support of Mission Talent, an Executive Search company, the Board designed and led a rigourous six-month process, and selected Laila Alodaat to lead the network into its next phase.

A seasoned feminist leader with two decades of experience in advocacy, movement building, and a proven track record as a litigator and strategist, Laila Alodaat joined the feminist peace movement through the International Women’s League for Peace and Freedom, where she held different positions and was appointed Deputy Secretary General in 2021. Laila is from Syria, and has extensive experience spans across women’s rights, resource distribution, and effective governance. She has served in various advisory and governance roles, including as a Trustee of the Feminist Review Trust since 2019. Laila holds a law degree from Damascus University and an LLM in Human Rights, Conflict, and Justice from the School of Oriental and African Studies. Laila is a mother of two, a qualified Forest School and Natural Reservation leader, and an active community organizer.

“I am honoured and excited to be appointed as the Executive Director of Prospera. The network’s values-driven approach and transformative feminist agenda resonate deeply with me, and I have long admired the critical role it has played as a convenor and catalyst for resource justice and redistribution. Prospera’s firm stand with grassroots groups in the Global South to back their feminist agendas and transform the structural oppression they face holds the greatest promise and is precisely the agenda that I want to put my expertise, passion and energy behind.”

I recognize the significant legacy I am stepping into, and I am committed to building on the incredible work that has already been done. I look forward to collaborating with Alex during the transition period, the talented team, the Board, and most importantly, with all the network’s members. I am eager to engage with, support, and learn from each of you as we continue to drive this vital movement forward together.”

Virisila Buadromo and Françoise Moudouthe, Prospera’s Board Co-Chairs, added “We are grateful to Alex and her visionary leadership over the years, and wish her the very best for the next step in her journey. While goodbyes are always sad we are incredibly excited to welcome Laila as our new Executive Director and know that she will contribute greatly to our collective journey in the feminist funding ecosystem”.

Laila will officially join Prospera on November 1, 2024, where she and Alex will work together until Alex’s departure at the end of the year.
